Seams πŸͺ‘

Today, we're launching Seams Alpha. Seams is an experiment in collective sense-making.

Right now, we're focusing on building a social annotation tool, creating new primitives in the Atmosphere that can be used to remix and create new knowledge. We feel strongly that social media is at it's best as a sense making tool, and the Atmosphere is the hottest new web like thing on the block. We believe the best way to do that is to create composable primitives.

Seams comes as a browser extension and a web proxy (which you can install as a PWA). We aim to package this up into an installable application on mobile, but haven't got there yet.

Right now you can install the extension on both Chrome and Firefox and it looks like this:

It highlight annotations made by other users, and make new annotations while you browse the web. On Chrome it shows up with an annotation button that opens the sidebar, but Firefox doesn't support that API, so instead comes with a context menu shortcut.

On mobile, you can still annotate by using the proxy: https://sure.seams.so, which is also installable through the PWA, so that it shows up on native Android share screen. Be sure to install it from Chrome, it's the only one that supports the API.

For iOS we also have a shortcut you can install as an icon in the share sheet, it'll direct you to proxy for URL shared. You can also directly go to https://seams.so/proxy/<url> to load the proxy client.

The Future

There's still to build here, and we'd love to hear your feedback. There's certainly still bugs we need to work on and lots of where to take this, and we want to do so collaboratively! There's a Tangled repo with issues and the source code, we have a Discord server to hang out in, and of course you can reach us over on Bluesky!
